About the Research Program

The use of new technologies leads to a fundamental change in the world of work. As a result, labor markets and fields of employment, established forms of organization, business models, work processes, qualification requirements, education and training systems, as well as the attitudes, expectations and demands of individuals towards work are changing. In this respect, sustainability in a ecological and economical, but especially also in a social sense must be taken into account in a digitalized world of work. Therefore it is the aim of this research program to develop interdisciplinary perspectives on the change of work driven by digitalization with respect to the three dimensions of sustainability.

The research program "Work, Digitalization and Sustainability" addresses this issue and thus makes a central contribution to the cross-sectional topic of digital transformation at the University of Hohenheim. It bundles the interdisciplinary cooperation of the chairs of the Institute for Education, Work and Society (560). The cooperation will be continuously expanded with internal and external partners. In doing so, more research synergies will be added to the program.

Central goals are

  • the thematic establishment and interdisciplinary research of sustainability in the digitalized world of work
  • the establishment and expansion of (inter)national research cooperations
  • the (inter)national networking of young scientists

The interaction of the departments at the University of Hohenheim to research sustainability in a digitalized working environment is unique in this combination.
